What is "Sumigraphy™"?

Sumigraphy™ is a premium made-to-order piece of art, in which our Japanese professional calligrapher creates for a kanji character for you. 

 

About Japanese Calligraphy

Japanese calligraphy has its origins in ancient Chinese calligraphic traditions. It was brought to Japan initially by Zen Buddhist monks. In Japan, the tradition has taken on its own life, blooming into different styles. The Buddhist style is called Syakyo, and embraces the art of writing, taking it beyond a mere communication medium. The brushstrokes capture the energy of the artist and bring the kanji characters to life. In traditional calligraphy, the brushstroke is an act of concentration and meditation, as the artist cannot correct any errors and must get it right in one effort. Japanese calligraphy has been developed and honored in our culture in tandem with other deeply respected Japanese artistic traditions, such as Sado, the tea ceremony, and Kado, the art of flower arrangement. All Japanese art forms respect harmony, nature, order, and beauty. Calligraphy is included in Japanese art education and is appreciated in our society as an ancient art.

 

What is "U-CAN Americas"?

U-CAN is a Japanese company whose mission is to support the creation of and appreciation for traditional Japanese arts and handcrafts. We have been in business in Japan for over 60 years, and launched our US division in 2014. 

How do I place an order?

Ordering is very simple. You select a Kanji character and then a frame color. Place both in your cart and checkout.

How can I change my order information?

What methods of payment can I use?

We accept all major credit cards. 

How can I cancel my order?

I made a mistake on my order.

How is sales tax calculated?

If an item is subject to sales tax in the state to which the order is shipped, tax is generally calculated on the total selling price of each individual item. In accordance with state tax laws, the total selling price of an item will generally include item-level shipping and handling charges, item-level discounts, gift-wrap charges, and an allocation of order-level shipping and handling charges and order-level discounts.

When can I expect my order to be delivered?

The piece you ordered will be created by our master calligrapher within a few business days, once your payment has been verified. You can expect delivery within 2 - 3 weeks after your order date.

Where do you ship?

At this time, we only  deliver within the US, including Hawaii, Alaska, and US Territories, other than US military bases. Feel free to contact with any specific questions about our shipping policies.

Can I designate the date and time of delivery?

We apologize but custom delivery dates are not possible. We ship the final piece as soon as it's completed by our master calligrapher. You can expect it typically within 2 - 3 weeks.

Can I track my package?

What the the shipping costs?

The shipping cost will be included in the price of your product.

I received the wrong product.

All of our pieces are made-to-order, so all purchases are final sale.

Since this is made-to-order, we do not manage the stocks. All items are always available for order.
